Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy – What is it?

Hypnotherapy is a form of psychotherapy used to create subconscious change in a patient in the form of new responses, thoughts, attitudes, behaviours or feelings. It is undertaken with a subject in hypnosis.  (from Wikipedia)

Hypnosis is a state of human consciousness involving heightened focused attention and reduced environmental awareness, the person can concentrate on a specific thought to achieve their individual goals. This could be called a trance state, or merely a daydream.  The state has many similarities with REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep state.  We go in and out of hypnosis, daydream, throughout the day.  We can be in a trance when listening to music, watching TV, driving a car and when we are in deep thought.

Hypnotherapy is different from hypnotism, which is a form of entertainment on stage or television.  What is common is the use of a hypnotic state or ‘trance’, which is perfectly safe and natural.

Some people are concerned that if they enter into a hypnotic state, they will be made to look foolish.

The truth is that this cannot happen because the human brain has a fantastic defence mechanism, which prevents anyone from successfully making you do something against your will.

I will explain how the brain works in a succinct and easy-to-grasp way enabling my clients to make practical sense of neuroscience and its application in their everyday lives.  I also help my clients to find useful solutions to help them cope much better with the issues they want to change.

When we have a specific goal in mind and when we apply ourselves to the attainment of that goal in a state of focused awareness, all the abilities of our conscious mind, the resources of the subconscious mind are activated in the pursuit of that goal.
